Wichita Stealth News Release
Wichita, Kan. - The Wichita Stealth today announced that they have been assigned former Kansas State University quarterback Jonathan Beasley (6-0, 225). Beasley becomes the third quarterback to sign with the Stealth this season and first quarterback from Kansas State to ever sign with the Stealth.
"Jonathan is a tremendous athlete and we are very pleased he has decided to be a part of this organization," said Stealth head coach Sean Ponder. "He had tremendous success at Kansas State and we hope he can bring the same success to Wichita."
Beasley was a two-year starter at Kansas State and led the Wildcats to two bowl victories (1999 Holiday Bowl and the 2000 Cotton Bowl). He led Kansas State to a 21-4 record in games that he started throughout his collegiate career. He was named All-Big XII conference third-team pick by the league's coaches adding honorable mention from the Associated Press. Beasley was named an offensive team captain during the 1999 and 2000 season.
"I am very excited to be back in the state of Kansas," said Beasley. "This is an opportunity to get my foot in the door of arena football and to work my way up."
After his Kansas State career, the Green Bay Packers signed Beasley as a free agent in 2001 before being released during training camp. After his stint with the Packers, he played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (CFL) during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Beasley played in one game with the Roughriders going 0 for 2 in passing and ran the ball one time for 13 yards. During the 2002 season, he played in one game going 3 for 18 for 28 yards and rushed for 33 yards on five carries for the Roughriders.
Beasley and the rest of his Stealth teammates begin training camp on Wednesday, March 17th with meetings and physicals and they begin practice on Thursday, March 18th.
