Columbus Wardogs News Release

Columbus, GA - The Columbus Wardogs and Muscogee County Humane Society scored another touchdown at the 4th Annual Top Dog Dinner & Auction as $40,000 was raised for the animals. The Top Dog Dinner & Auction has brought in almost $200,000 in four years and continues to be the largest single fundraiser in the animal shelter's 36-year history. This year's event was held June 24 at the Columbus Civic Center.

"The humane society receives no city, county or state funding whatsoever. We survive through donations and events like the Top Dog event," said shelter director Joan Sammond. "The money raised by the Wardogs represents a significant portion of our annual operating budget."

The Wardogs players served dinner to almost 500 people. Guests participated in a silent auction and enjoyed live music by the Good Times Band. All proceeds were raised through ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, program ad sales, silent auction proceeds and tips earned by the players.

The Muscogee County Humane Society is located at 7133 Sacerdote Lane. Last year, a record 3,000 pets were adopted through the facility. To volunteer, make a donation or adopt a pet, call (706) 563-DOGS.
