Manchester Wolves News Release

The Manchester Wolves playoff chances fell out of their hands late in the fourth quarter with Cape Fear's Antwon Robinson's key fourth quarter interception. The interception, Chris Sanders' first since June 18th against Memphis, came at the 3:27 mark to seal the Wildcats' 47-33 victory Friday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Manchester's loss disappointed a strong home crowd of 7,130 fans. Cape Fear improves to 11-3 while the Wolves fall to 5-9.

Former Wolves player George Williams came back to Manchester and played a big part in the Wildcats win. Williams earned the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game Award for his strong showing, notching a game-high 10 receptions for 121 yards and one touchdown.

The Wolves, who trailed the Wildcats 26-19 at the half, battled back in the third quarter on the strength of two long touchdown receptions by Reggie Robinson (42 yards) and Henry Frazier (27 yards). Manchester's offense, however, stalled in the fourth quarter, going scoreless after leading 33-32.

On the bright side for the Wolves, rookie DS Robert Carey earned the ADT Defensive Player of the Game Award with a game-high 10.5 total tackles and two interceptions. J.J. McKelvey also had a strong overall outing for the Wolves on both sides of the ball. McKelvey snared four passes for 33 yards and rushed for two touchdowns on offense, while recording three tackles and one forced fumble on defense. For his efforts, the rookie WR/LB from Clemson earned his first US Army Ironman of the Game honor.
