
Walleye Ring up Big Signing with Register

Toledo, OH - Three-time Kelly Cup Champion and three time ECHL Defenseman of the Year Matt Register has agreed to terms for the 2018-19 season with the Toledo Walleye.
Register, a Calgary, Alberta native, has raised the Kelly Cup in three straight seasons including the past two years in Colorado. Last season Register posted 65 points, featuring 17 goals and a career high 48 assists while appearing in all 72 contests for the Eagles. The ECHL Defenseman of the Year followed up that performance with another 20 points (3G, 17A) in 24 playoff contests, helping the Eagles to their second straight Kelly Cup. His first championship came with Allen in the 2016 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
"This is an outstanding add for the Walleye and the fans of Toledo hockey," said Head Coach Dan Watson. "The proof is in the championship pedigree and skill set that Matt will bring to the blue line for Toledo. It is through hard work, talent and dedication that a player gets honored with being the best at his position."
The 29-year-old has been unstoppable in his ECHL career, racking up an astounding 273 points (74G, 199A) over 341 games. He has also picked up 272 career penalty minutes and is a plus 82 in ECHL play. Register has also appeared in 100 Kelly Cup playoff contests with 75 points (21G, 54A). In the 2016-17 season he scored a career best 18 goals to go along with 46 assists over another 72 contests while also taking home the best Defenseman honors.
His first full ECHL season with is 2013-14 with Ontario in which Register picked up his first ECHL Defenseman of the Year honor with 44 points (14G, 30A) over 67 games. That led him to another to another season with the Reign before a season split between Atlanta and Allen in 2015-16. The 6'2", 194 pound defenseman turned pro with Allen in the 2012-13 season when the Americans were still in the CHL and has six career AHL contests that came with Chicago during the 2014-15 season with four assists in those games.
