Toledo, OH - Defenseman Joel Chouinard (shwee-NARD) has agreed to terms with the Toledo Walleye for the 2014-15 season.

Chouinard spent the entire 2013-14 season with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League, skating in 67 contests with two goals and seven assists. Since turning professional in 2010, the native of Sherbroke, Quebec has appeared in 165 AHL games with 10 goals, 26 assists and 101 penalty minutes. The former sixth-round pick of Colorado in the 2008 NHL Draft spent parts of three seasons in Lake Erie of the AHL before playing last year with Hamilton. In 2012-13, the 24-year-old skated in 42 games with Denver of the CHL, posting 20 points (6G, 14A).

"Joel is a significant signing for us," said Head Coach Derek Lalonde. "We were looking for a player with his pro hockey experience to bolster our back end."

Prior to turning professional, Chouinard spent three plus seasons skating with Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, including being an assistant captain in 2008-09 and 2009-10. With the Tigres, the 6'1", 187 pound defenseman set career marks in 2009-10 with 23 goals, 45 assists, 68 points and a plus 23. His QMJHL totals see 221 games played with 45 goals, 99 assists and 236 penalty minutes.
