Nailers to Host Opening Night 5K Run

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, are happy to announce a new promotional event, which will make its debut on Opening Night. The Nailers, CentreTown Fitness, and The Ohio Valley Runners' Club present The Opening Night 5K.
We are excited to be partnering with OVMC, CentreTown Fitness, and the Ohio Valley Runners' Club to help promote this fantastic event," said Nailers Vice President Craig Bommer. "We hope to continue to grow this event in years to come, making it a great tradition to get the season off to a running start," he said.
The Opening Night 5K will begin on Saturday, October 18th at 9:00 AM, with the starting line located at the bike trail at 17th and Wood Streets. The course travels through Tunnel Green to Rock Point Road, over Rock Point, and by the Ogden Newspaper facility, before ultimately finishing near the parking lot of the First Choice America Credit Union on 20th Street.
Pre-registration is $25 through October 17th, or $30 on the day of the race from 7:30-8:30 at CentreTown Fitness. Each participant will receive one ticket to the Nailers' Opening Night game at 7:35 on October 18th, complimentary food and beverages, door prizes, and more, while the first 200 entrants will receive a long-sleeve shirt. Awards will be presented during first intermission of the Opening Night game to the top three overall male and female runners, top three male and female walkers, top three finishers in each age group run and walk, and first CenterTown member male and female run and walk. Funds raised will go to Ohio Valley Health Services and Education (OVHS&E) Foundation.
"The event is being held to promote the physical benefits and social enjoyment of a competitive 5K race run or walk and is an excellent way to begin the 2014-15 hockey season," said George Frazier, Director of CentreTown Fitness.
Sponsors for the Opening Night 5K Run are: CentreTown Fitness, The Ohio Valley Runners' Club, Main Street Bank, OVMC/EORH, WTRF-7, RRCA, TJ's, The Intelligencer, Beyond Marketing, Clear Channel Radio, First Choice America, Hole 'n Run, Pepsi Bottling Group, and Vocelli Pizza of Wheeling.
