Mississippi Braves News Release

Jackson, TN - Seattle Mariners right-hander Taijuan Walker pitched well in his second major league rehab of the year, and the Mississippi Braves fell short of a late comeback against the Jackson Generals, falling 4-2 on a chilly Wednesday night at the Ballpark at Jackson.

Rehabbing from right-shoulder inflammation, Walker (1-0) pitched five innings and held the Braves to just three hits while striking out 10 en route to the win.

The Braves (2-4) fell behind early when Jackson shortstop Ketel Marte singled and designated hitter Jabari Blash doubled, setting up a Kevin Rivers sacrifice fly to take an early 1-0 lead. First baseman Dan Paolini then doubled to plate Blash, making it 2-0 Generals.

In the third, M-Braves starter Lay Batista walked Blash and Rivers grounded into a force at second. Then with Paolini at the plate, Batista dropped the ball on the mound as he threw a pitch-called a balk. On the play, Batista felt his arm strain and exited the game.

The Generals (4-2) plated two more runs in the third on an RBI single by Leon Landry and an unearned run off an error by shortstop Gustavo Nunez, making it 4-0.

Mississippi blasted their way back into it in the sixth inning when Seth Loman hit an opposite field two-run home run, scoring Emerson Landoni and pulling to 4-2. It was Loman's second home run of the year.

The Braves' bullpen shined in the loss, with Chasen Shreve, John Cornely and Ronan Pacheco throwing 5 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run. Batista finished with three earned runs on four hits over 2 1/3 innings of work.

Stephen Kohlscheen pitched the final inning for Jackson, picking up his first save of the year.

The M-Braves and Generals play game two of a five-game series at the Ballpark at Jackson on Thursday night at 7:05 PM CT. Listen live to Kyle Tait on the call beginning at 6:30 PM CT on 103.9 WYAB or online at MississippiBraves.com and TuneIn Radio.
