Birmingham Barons News Release
Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons dropped their second-straight home game Thursday, falling by a score of 8-1 to the Jacksonville Suns in front of 8,007 fans at Regions Field.
The Suns wasted no time in jumping on Barons starter Myles Jaye (0-1. 5.73), scoring six runs over the first three innings. They would plate three runs in the first on a two-run ground-rule double by Joe Benson and an RBI base hit by Ryan Fisher to take a 3-0 lead. They'd tack another run an inning later on a base hit by Danny Black, increasing the lead to 4-0. JT Realmuto's second home run of the series, a two-run shot in the third, pushed the Suns lead to 6-0.
Five of the six runs charged to Jaye were earned as he allowed fivehits and struck out five over 5.0 IP.
The Suns got two insurance runs in the top of the ninth on a Rich Poythress double against reliever Parker Frazier.
The Barons weren't given many opportunities to score as Suns starter Andrew Heaney (1-0, 2.38) scattered four hits and struck out eight over 6.0 IP while picking up his first win of the season.
The Barons broke through with their lone run in the bottom of the 9th, getting an RBI single by Michael Earley against reliever Tyler Higgins to avoid the team's first shutout of the season.
Rangel Ravelo and Chris Curley each finished 2-for-4, accounting for four of the Barons' seven hits on the night.
With the loss the Barons fall to 2-5 while the Suns improve to 3-4. The Barons will look to avoid their first-ever three-game losing streak at Regions Field Friday as LHP Scott Snodgress (0-1, 36.00) takes the hill against RHPAngel Sanchez (0-1, 12.00). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
