Boise Hawks News Release
Boise, ID â Dan Walker has announced that he will step down as President and General Manager of the Boise Hawks Baseball Club to pursue other business interests. Walker has been President of the Hawks for the past 5 years, adding the General Manager role in 2003. He will continue to act as a consultant for the club and have a financial interest in the ownership of the Hawks.
Todd Rahr, who joined the Hawks in February as Vice President of Sales and Marketing, will assume the roles of President and General Manager. Rahr has been involved in minor league baseball for that last 13 years. Prior to coming to the Hawks, he spent 4 seasons as VP/Baseball Operations of the independent Central Baseball League's Springfield-Ozark Mountain Ducks based in Springfield Missouri.
"I feel that the Boise Hawks are well positioned for success on and off the field under Todd's leadership. He will make an outstanding President and General Manager" Walker said. "I will miss the interaction with the fans, the sponsors and the booster club but I am a serious fan of the game and come next season you'll see me at Memorial Stadium supporting the Hawks."
Rahr's career in baseball management includes stops in Savannah, Georgia (1992-'93) with the Cardinals Single-A club; Eugene, Oregon (1994-'98) with the rival Emeralds of the Northwest League; and San Bernardino, California (1998-'99) with the Dodgers Single-A club as their General Manager. He graduated from Ohio University with a Sports Science-Sports Industry bachelor's degree and is joined in Boise by his wife Stephanie and 3 children, Zachary (13), Elijah (8) and Megan (6).
"Dan's day-to-day presence will undoubtedly be missed", said Rahr. "That said I'm confident that the front office team we have in place will continue to provide fans in the Treasure Valley with the kind of quality entertainment they've come to expect from the Hawks. We're coming off a fantastic championship season and are excited about our future."
During Walker's tenure the Hawks switched affiliations from the Anaheim Angels to the Chicago Cubs. Since their affiliation with the Cubs the Hawks have won 3 division titles and 2 NWL championships. In August, the Cubs and Hawks renewed their player development contract through the 2008 season. "The Cubs are an outstanding organization that truly cares about their affiliates and their success on the field" said Walker. "I believe someday you will see a number of players that were Boise Hawks leading the Chicago Cubs to that elusive World Series Championship."
Walker and his wife Linda will continue to reside in the Treasure Valley.
