June 13, 2022 - United States Football League (USFL) - New Orleans Breakers

Michigan Panthers wide receiver Joe Walker, New Orleans Breakers linebacker Jerod Fernandez, and Houston Gamblers cornerback Micah Abernathy were named the OurSports Central United States Football League Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Unsung Hero of the Week, respectively, for week nine of the USFL season.

Walker grabbed seven receptions on nine targets for 129 yards and two touchdowns in the Panthers' 25-23 loss to the New Jersey Generals. His longest reception of the game went for 60 yards.

Walker played college football at Delaware before being signed to the Michigan active roster on April 29th.

Here is Walker's stellar performance against the New Jersey Generals:

Jerod Fernandez compiled eight tackles, five of them solo, one sack, two tackles for loss and two forced fumbles in New Orleans' 17-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Bandits that clinched a berth in the USFL postseason.

Fernandez played college football at NC State. He was selected by the New Orleans Breakers in the 22nd round of the USFL Draft.

Here's the dominant performance by Fernandez and the rest of the Breakers defense against the Bandits.

Micah Abernathy intercepted a pass by Birmingham Stallions quarterback J'Mar Smith with 1:10 left in the game in the Gamblers' 17-15 victory over the previously-undefeated Birmingham Stallions. For the first time in seven games, the Gamblers won when they were ahead at halftime.

After playing college football at Tennessee, Abernathy joined the XFL Dallas Roughnecks in 2020. He was selected by the Houston Gamblers in the fourth round, 27th overall, of the USFL Supplemental Draft.

With Birmingham trailing by just two and attempting to get into field goal range late in the game, Abernathy's interception put an end to the Stallions' perfect season:
