Philadelphia Stars quarterback Case Cookus, New Jersey Generals linebacker D'Juan Hines and Birmingham Stallions cornerback Josh Shaw were named the OurSports Central United States Football League Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Unsung Hero of the Week, respectively, for week eight of the USFL season.

Case Cookus completed 20 of 26 passes for 247 yards and four touchdowns, and added 118 rushing yards and one rushing score in the Philadelphia Stars' 46-24 victory over the Houston Gamblers. He spread the ball around, with seven Stars players catching at least one pass.

Cookus played college football at Northern Arizona from 2015 until 2019. He was named Freshman of the Year and was the winner of the Jerry Rice Award which is given to the most outstanding freshman in the Football Championship Subdivision in 2015 after throwing for 3,111 yards and 37 touchdowns. He also earned All-Big Sky First Team accolades. Philadelphia selected Cookus in the 14th round of the 2022 USFL Draft. He began the season as a backup before taking the reins when Stars starter Bryan Scott was injured in the third game.

Here's Cookus' fourth touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, a 51-yarder to tight end Pro Wells:

His 79-yard touchdown run later in the fourth turned the contest into a blowout:

An honorable mention goes to New Jersey Generals running back Darius Victor who totaled 109 yards and three rushing touchdowns in the team's 29-18 victory over the Pittsburgh Maulers.

D'Juan Hines contributed 15 total tackles, nine of them solo, and two tackles for a loss in New Jersey's win over Pittsburgh. Hines helped the Generals defense hold the Maulers to only 77 rushing yards in the game.

Hines played college football at Houston where he made First Team All-AAC in 2017. He played for the Cleveland Browns in 2018 and for the XFL's New York Guardians in 2020 before being selected by the Generals in the 29th round of the 2022 USFL Draft.

Josh Shaw intercepted a pass by New Orleans Breakers quarterback Kyle Sloter with six seconds left in the Birmingham Stallions' 10-9 victory over the New Orleans Breakers.

Shaw played college football at USC where he was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round, 120th overall. He remained with Cincinnati until 2017 before spending time with the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018 as well as the Arizona Cardinals in 2019. Birmingham drafted him in the eighth round of the USFL Supplemental Draft.

With the Breakers trying to get in range for a game winning field goal, Shaw secured the game-sealing interception:
