Colburn, Odom and Perez Named OurSports Central USFL Players of the Week

Philadelphia Stars running back Matt Colburn II, Houston Gamblers defensive end Chris Odom, and New Jersey Generals quarterback Luis Perez were named the OurSports Central United States Football League Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Unsung Hero of the Week, respectively, for week six of the USFL season.

With starter Paul Terry out with an injury, Colburn made the most of his opportunity, carrying the ball 18 times for 140 yards with three rushing touchdowns and adding two receptions for 12 yards in Philadelphia's 35-28 victory over the Tampa Bay Bandits.

Colburn played college football at Wake Forest, before joining the XFL's New Guardians for two games in 2020. He also played in The Spring League. He was selected by the Philadelphia Stars in the 28th round of the 2022 USFL Draft.

Here are Colburn's three touchdowns, the third of which went for 44 yards:

An honorable mention goes to Tampa Bay Bandits quarterback Jordan Ta'Amu who passed for 333 yards, four touchdowns and added 61 rushing yards in their loss to the Stars.

Chris Odom contributed seven tackles including six solo, two sacks, two forced fumbles and a blocked kick in the Houston Gamblers' 26-25 loss to the New Jersey Generals.

The much-traveled Odom played college football at Arkansas State, where he was First Team All-SunBelt in 2016. He joined the Green Bay Packers in 2017, and in 2019 played for the Alliance of American Football's Salt Lake Stallions and then later with the Washington Redskins. In 2021 he played three games with the CFL's Calgary Stampeders. Odom was selected by the Houston Gamblers with the fourth pick in the second round of the 2022 USFL Draft.

Luis Perez scored on a one-yard quarterback sneak on the final play of the game for the New Jersey Generals, providing the winning margin over hapless Houston.

Perez played college football at Texas A&M Commerce, where won a national championship in 2017. He played with the Alliance of American Football's Birmingham Iron in 2019 before joining the XFL's New York Guardians the following year. On April 1, 2022 he signed a contract with the Generals.
