June 28, 2023 - Houston Gamblers head coach Curtis Johnson was on the phone. He was talking in his charismatic cadence - the kind a coach uses when he's doing what so many coaches are afraid to do - stand on the stump and campaign for his guy.
The guy in question? Gamblers running back Mark Thompson, who was named the USFL's Offensive Player of the Year on Wednesday.

June 2, 2023 - The great divide in the USFL this season has been between the South Division - where every team is 4-3 or better - and the North Division - where every team is 4-3 or worse. The difference has been a 9-3 record for South teams against the North, and the league plays its fourth and final round of non-division games this weekend, with a chance to further the gap between the two.

May 21, 2023 - MEMPHIS - The Houston Gamblers showed Sunday that they are right at home in their hub city of Memphis, managing to pull off a 16-10 Grind City win against the New Jersey Generals to extend their winning streak to a league-best four in a row.
Running back Mark Thompson continued to perform as the best TD machine in the USFL. Before the first quarter ended against New Jersey, Thompson punched into the end zone from 6 yards out for his league-best ninth rushing TD of the season.
