When the Houston SaberCats reached their first Major League Rugby Championship, it may have meant a little more to Seth Smith.
On the road against the Utah Warriors, the Richmond, Texas, native was a try scorer as Pote Human's team upset their hosts to win 33-19 and clinch a first-ever Western Conference title.
As an 11-year-old, the hooker, nicknamed 'Viking' due to his braided blonde hair, was taken to watch Houston play their home games at Constellation Field in Sugar Land.

Dom Akina and the Houston SaberCats are focused on returning to winning ways in Week 13.
The team has their sights on defeating #2 in the West, San Diego Legion, under the lights this Saturday on ESPN2
Their 36-17 loss to the New England Free Jacks last weekend in Massachusetts saw the Western Conference side slip to third.
This is the lowest position the Texas club has held since Week 3. Now, the side will face the San Diego Legion this Saturday and hope to not only leapfrog their Californ... Full Story
March 29, 2025 - Sam Hill believes that last year's heartbreak can fuel the Houston SaberCats' title chances in 2025.
During his first season with Pote Human's team, Hill helped the Texans set the pace in Major League Rugby with a 14-2 regular season record and enter the postseason as the top seed.
However, despite their good form and prominence in the regular season, the team exited the postseason in the Western Conference semi-final after a 34-22 loss to the Dallas Jackals.

Over the 16-week regular season, the club won more games, scored the second most tries, registered 11 try-scoring bonus points, and had the most points.
Reaching the Playoffs for a third straight year, the SaberCats were red-hot favorites to reach the Championship Final as knockout rugby reared its head. However, the team did not make it past the Western Conference Semi-Final.
