Walk-Off Single Lifts Newark Over Amsterdam 4-3

A ninth-inning rally sparked the Newark Pilots' (19-15) 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the Amsterdam Mohawks (22-14) on Senator Mike Nozzolio night at Colburn Park.
Kyle Attl (Cal State Northridge) came to the plate with the game tied at 3-3 and runners on second and third. Attl hit a groundball that found the gap between Amsterdam's first and second basemen, allowing Matt Vera (San Joaquin Delta) to cross home plate with the game-winning run.
Newark trailed 3-2 heading into the final inning. Singles from Michael Bolling (Lewis) and Vera and a walk to Luke Swenson (UC Santa Barbara) loaded the bases for the Pilots with only one out. Bolling scored the game-tying run on a sacrifice hit from Ray Delvalle (Kentucky Wesleyan).
With the exception of a few innings, the game was a back-and-forth battle between each team's pitching staff. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth as each team entered the inning with just two hits.
The Pilots scored two unearned runs with Amsterdam starter Jimmy Dykstra (LSU) on the mound. Dykstra was then pulled in favor of Mike Dodakian (Dartmouth). Dodakian and Derrick Brewer (Radford) combined for three and a third scoreless relief innings.
Newark's Justin D'Amato (St. John Fisher) had blanked the Mohawks until the eighth. D'Amato was relieved in the top half of the frame after issuing his only two walks of the game.Zach Shank (Marist) then tied the game with a two-run single. He scored the go-ahead run on an error by the Pilots during the next at bat.
Abram Williams (Radford) received the loss after giving up the two runs in the ninth. The Amsterdam pitching staff collectively recorded nine strikeouts. Shank finished with two RBI's and a run on one hit.
Newark reliever Jim Glasgow earned the win out of the bullpen. He pitched the final one and two-third innings, striking out one. Bolling scored two runs on two hits and stole his leagueleading 17th bag.
The Newark Pilots and the Amsterdam Mohawks return to Colburn Park on Thursday for their two-game series finale. First pitch has been moved from noon to 11 a.m.
