HORN LAKEâBack by popular demand, the hosts with the most, the RiverKings hockey players will be serving up Southern delicacies to help the Palmer Home for Children orphanage on Dec. 6 at H.T. Ponder's restaurant on Nail Road in Horn Lake during the Player-Waiter Dinner.
The players will exchange their jerseys for aprons on Monday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. All tips they receive will go to Palmer Home. In addition, the guys' autographed aprons, which will feature each team member's playing number, will be auctioned off at the âKings With A Cause (K.W.A.C.) table during games, and the proceeds will go to Palmer Home.
"One of the reasons we chose Palmer Home for Children as the beneficiary is that it is one of the player's featured charities," said Summer Holbrook, RiverKings Community Relations Representative and K.W.A.C. Coordinator.
"The purpose of âKings With A Cause is to help the players in their charitable efforts. Our team captain, Don Parsons, heads up Parsons' Pledge goals-for-charity program and Palmer Home is one of the beneficiaries.
"H.T. Ponder's owner, Tim Ponders, is really excited about helping children, the food is great and they've offered to give us the whole place for the night. It's going to be a really fun event."
A child's dinner from the evening will include two chicken tenders, fries, hush puppies and a drink and costs $6. Adult dinners include one rib, two pieces of fried catfish, a chicken tender, fries, baked beans, cole slaw, hush puppies and a drink. Cost is $15 for K.W.A.C. members, $17 for non-members.
Seating for the Player-Waiter is limited to 175 people on a first-come, first-serve, reservations basis. Last year's attendance was 100 people and is expected to be greater this year.
As for Tim Ponders, he's glad the restaurant will be working with such a worthy cause.
"It's awesome that we can do what we do every day and all the money will go to help the children in the orphanage," Ponders said. "When it comes down to it, that's what really matters. Plus, H.T. Ponder's is all about families. Our atmosphere is extremely family friendly, and we feel the Player-Waiter Dinner is an event that the whole family can enjoy."
To make reservations call Summer at 662-470-2165 or e-mail summer@riverkings.com. H.T. Ponder's restaurant is located at 1815 Nail Road in Horn Lake.
