New Mexico Scorpions News Release
ALBUQUERQUE â New Mexico Scorpions center Konrad McKay has been named the Oakley Central Hockey League Player of the Week, the league announced today. McKay, 24, led the Scorpions with four goals and nine points in four games last week, all on the road. He is tied for second on the team and tied for sixth in the CHL with 11 points (4g-7a) in eight games as the Scorpions have jumped out to a 6-2-0 record in their first eight games. It is the second straight week that a Scorpions player has won the award, with Mike Oliveira taking the honors last week.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound native of Wabowden, Manitoba tied a career-high with four points on two goals and two assists in last Tuesday's 5-2 win at Topeka. He followed that up with five points in two weekend games at Colorado â two assists in Friday's 3-2 overtime win over the Eagles and two goals and an assist in Saturday's 4-3 shootout victory.
"Konrad has been a great addition to our team," said Scorpions Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Bill McDonald. "Not only does he do everything we ask of him on the ice â score, pass, hit, give up his body to block shots â but he is also a great team guy in the locker room and away from the rink."
The Scorpions return home on Friday, Nov. 12 when they host the San Angelo Saints. Faceoff is 7:05 p.m. The first 1,500 fans receive a FREE Scorpions schedule poster and WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio will be appearing live and signing autographs.
