GREENVILLE _ Adam Wainwright allowed one hit in seven innings, a fifth-inning home run by Jon Knott, to lead the Greenville Braves to a 5-1 Southern League victory Saturday night.

The 6-foot-6 Wainwright (2-2), who pitched five shutout innings in his previous home start, struck out 10 batters and walked one. Kazuhiro Takeoka pitched two perfect innings to preserve the win, which ended Greenville's 3-game losing streak.

The win gave the G-Braves (13-14) a chance to salvage a split in the 4-game series Sunday, when it faces the BayBears in a 1:15 p.m. game that also ends the homestand.

Greenvile struck for four runs in the bottom of the fifth, when a two-run triple by Richard Lewis provided the big blow. Kelly Johnson and Pete Orr stroked RBI singles. Bill McCarthy's home run gave the G-Braves a 5-1 lead an inning later.

McCarthy and Johnson, who has hit safely in eight of his last nine games, each had two hits. Mobile, 10-4 in its previous 14 games, took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning on John Knott's fourth home run of the year.

Mobile sends lef-hander Roger Deago (3-0) to the mound Sunday against Greenville right-hander Bubba Nelson (2-1). The G-Braves will get a day off Monday, then begin a 4-game series against the Tennessee Smokies Tuesday in Sevierville, Tenn.
