Orlando Rays News Release
ORLANDO -Greenville pounded out 12 hits and starting pitcher Adam Wainwright was perfect through six innings as the Greenville Braves dropped the Orlando Rays 13-0 in front of 1,246 at Cracker Jack Stadium Tuesday.
Wainwright (W, 9-6) retired the first 19 batters he faced before B.J. Upton singled to left field in the seventh inning, spoiling both the no-hitter and perfect game in one swing. Wainwright finished the night with seven solid innings, limiting Orlando to just one hit and one walk while striking out three.
Orlando starter Jason Cromer (L, 1-3) had no such luck, as Greenville reached the young lefty for nine runs - seven earned - on eight hits through six innings pitched. Orlando's offense continued to struggle as the Rays were blanked for the second straight night, being held to just two hits on the evening. The Braves have outscored Orlando 13-0 over the first two games of the series.
James Jurries and Charles Thomas did most of the damage for the G-Braves, with Jurries driving in four runs and scoring twice on a double and a triple. Thomas chipped in with a 3-5 effort that included three runs scored. The one through four hitters in the Braves lineup went a combined 8-17 on the night, scoring nine runs and driving in seven more.
The loss dropped Orlando to 28-31 on the second half and 60-68 overall, while Greenville improved its second half record to 29-35, and 65-67 overall. The Braves also extended their winning streak to four games.
The teams continue the series tomorrow at 7:05 as the Rays send RHP Scott Autrey (4-3, 3.14) to the mound against Greenville lefty Ray Aguilar (3-4, 2.83).
