August 26, 2003 - Southern League (SL1)
Mobile BayBears News Release
Mobile, Ala.--The Mobile BayBears Professional Baseball Club announced today that outfielders Jon Knott and Freddy Guzman have been promoted to the Triple-A Portland Beavers by the BayBears parent club, the San Diego Padres.
Knott had established a BayBears single-season home run record in 2003 by hitting 27 to shatter the previous record of 22 set by John Curl in 1999. Knott was batting .252. His RBI total of 82 was the third highest in a single season in BayBears history. Knott was leading the league in runs scored and extra base hits at the time of his promotion.
Guzman currently leads all of professional baseball in stolen bases with 87. He stole 38 bases in 46 games with Mobile after stealing 49 at Lake Elsinore earlier this season. Guzman was batting .271 with the BayBears.
Knott and Guzman join Bobby Scales and Rico Washington as BayBears promoted to Portland in the last 11 days.
Mobile hosts Chattanooga at 7:05 PM at Hank Aaron Stadium Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights in the final home games of the season.
