Mobile BayBears News Release

Mobile, Ala. – In a game that featured 22 runs, 23 hits, 13 walks and lasted 3:20, the BayBears fell 12-10 to the Chattanooga Lookouts in the opener of their four-game series in front of 2,312 fans at Hank Aaron Stadium Monday night.

The Lookouts hit a total of four homeruns in the contest. Chattanooga came into the game leading the league with 97 long balls on the year.

Chattanooga led 2-1 entering the top of the third and looked to expand that by many more. BayBears starter Roger Deago walked three in the inning, but they would only score one run, leaving the bases loaded. Home plate umpire Brandon Bushee ejected BayBears manager Craig Colbert during the frame. The ejection seemed to wake up the Mobile bats in the bottom of the frame.

Freddy Guzman and Todd Donovan drew back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. Humberto Quintero followed with a two-run double to tie the score at 3-3. Jon Knott smacked a double of his own that chased Quintero home with the go-ahead run on the next pitch. Knott would later score on a wild pitch by Lookouts starter John Koronka to give the BayBears a 5-3 lead through three.

After the BayBears added one run to their lead in the bottom of the fourth, Chattanooga tied the score in the top of the fifth. Deago retired the first two batters on one pitch a piece. Then the wheels fell off. After a four-pitch walk, Jason Dellaero hit a two-run homerun followed, on the next pitch, by a solo shot by Bryan Anderson to tie the game at 6-6.

Guzman drove in Vinnie Faison with a two-out single in the sixth to give the BayBears another lead. However, it was short lived. In the top of the seventh the Lookouts scored four runs off of reliever Jose Nunez to go out in front to stay. The scoring was capped by a pinch hit, three-run homerun by pitcher Casey DeHart. The Lookouts led 10-7 going to the bottom of the seventh.

J.J. Furmaniak drove home Knott with a single to trim the lead to two runs. However, Chattanooga added two more tallies in the top of the eighth against J.J. Trujillo.

Quintero picked up his fourth hit and fifth RBI on the night with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 12-10.

The BayBears and Lookouts will play game two of their series Tuesday night at 7:05. Chris Oxspring (9-5) will get the start for Mobile against Chattanooga's Ryan Mottl (6-4).

Team autographed baseballs will be given away every inning during the final three home games at Hank Aaron Stadium beginning Tuesday night.
