Wahoos Add Experience with Wimberly

The Blue Wahoos have added experience minor league utility man Corey Wimberly to the roster. Wimberly has spent eight years in professional baseball since getting drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the sixth round in 2005 out of Alcorn State University.

His career has taken him as high a Triple-A over the past three seasons, most recently with the Gwinnett Braves (Triple-A, Atlanta) of the International League this season. He played in 25 games with Gwinnett this season prior to signing with the Reds organization. In four seasons at the highest level of minor league baseball, he has hit .274 with 81 steals. Over his nine seasons overall he's a lifetime .295 hitter with 284 stolen bases and 111 extra-base hits.

In a corresponding move, INF Michael Gilmartin has been released. Gilmartin played in 34 games this year between Pensacola and Bakersfield, including 25 with the Blue Wahoos. The versatile infielder was hitting .169 with a home run and three RBI this season with Pensacola. He was originally a 27th round pick of the Athletics in 2009.
