Jackson Generals News Release
JACKSON, TENN. - No runs were scored past the third inning Friday night, as the Jackson Generals (25-32) fell to the Chattanooga Lookouts (30-31) 4-2 in the opener of the set. The Lookouts combined stellar pitching and a four-run inning to down the Generals.
The Generals jumped on top with two runs in the second inning. Ji-Man Choi (1-4, HR, 2 RBI, R), called up to Jackson earlier in the week, made his first Double-A hit a special one. He took Zach Lee's inside fastball and smoked it off the scoreboard in right center field. Lee tightened up from there though, and it spelled trouble for the home team, as they managed only three hits after the two-run shot.
Chattanooga wouldn't be outdone though, as they responded in the next half-inning. They tallied four runs in the third but only had three hits. A leadoff walk, followed by a throwing error off a bunt, gave way to back-to-back doubles by Brian Cavazos-Galvez and J.T. Wise later in the inning. Just like that the Lookouts snagged the lead and it ended up being the final result.
Lookouts starter Zach Lee (W, 5-3, 2.62) pitched a gem of a ballgame. The 22-year old right-hander recorded five strikeouts but was even better at pitching to contact and trusting his good defense to make outs behind him. Those two assets allowed Lee to go seven strong giving up only two runs on five hits. The bullpen was solid in the eighth and ninth as Chattanooga was able to take the first of the five game series.
Roenis Elias (L, 2-6, 3.09) breezed through the first two innings but ran into trouble after giving up the lead-off walk in the third. Elias allowed lead off base runners from the third to sixth innings in his 5.1 innings of work. The lefty surrendered four runs, three of those unearned, on six hits. He left after only 78 pitches.
The Generals look to get back on track Saturday night against the Lookouts. The pitching matchup features two of the top prospects in the Mariners and Dodgers organizations. Taijuan Walker (3-6, 2.67) gets the call and will go up against Chris Reed (2-5, 4.42). It will be a 6:05 CST start.
