PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (38-38) fell to the Montgomery Biscuits (40-37) 6-0 and lost a five-game winning streak on Wednesday night at Trustmark Park.

Luke Waddell highlighted the offense, going 3-for-4 with a triple and a stolen base. Waddell has hit in eight of the last nine games and is batting .314 with six home runs and 33 RBI in 42 games for the M-Braves.

Montgomery jumped out to the lead right away, scoring three runs on five hits in the first inning. The Biscuits added another run in the second to lead 4-0 after two innings.

After struggling through the first two innings, Scott Blewett settled down and retired nine of 10 batters. An error led to two unearned runs and chased Blewett out of the game in the fifth inning. The right-hander racked up seven strikeouts, his second most in a start this season.

Waddell tripled with two outs in the fourth, but Cade Bunnell was picked off after a walk to end the inning.

The game was delayed for 39 minutes due to rain after six innings. In the seventh, Waddell reached on a single and Javier Valdes walked, but the M-Braves came up empty again.

The bullpen performed well again, putting up 4 1/3 shutout innings. Hayden Harris contributed 1 1/3 scoreless innings, replacing Blewett in the fifth. Ty Tice struck out the side in the seventh, and Alec Barger and Trey Riley each notched a pair of strikeouts in a shutout inning. The M-Braves racked up a season-high 17 strikeouts.

The M-Braves went down in order in the eighth and ninth innings in the 6-0 loss.

The third game of the series is on Thursday at Trustmark Park. LHP Luis De Avila (5-4, 2.91) will pitch for Mississippi while LHP Mason Montgomery (2-2, 3.68) will start for Montgomery. The first pitch is at 6:35 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, MiLB First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
