Knoxville Smokies News Release

KODAK, TENN- Smokies right fielder Owen Caissie hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning, for the second consecutive night, to give Tennessee a 1-0 lead. This was Caissie's team-leading 15th home run of the season. In the top of the third inning, Barons designated hitter Chris Shaw hit a game-tying solo home run, his 12th of the season, to make it a 1-1 game. However, in the home half of the third, Caissie drove in Pete Crow-Armstrong on an RBI double to put the Smokies back in front, 2-1.

It remained a 2-1 Smokies lead, until the top of the sixth inning, when Terrell Tatum and Jose Rodriguez hit back-to-back solo home runs, to give the Barons their first lead of the game, 3-2. In the home half of the sixth, BJ Murray Jr. scored on a Cole Roederer RBI groundout to tie the game. Smokies starting pitcher Walker Powell recorded a quality start, allowing three runs in six innings pitched of a no decision.

Following the Smokies' game-tying run in the bottom of the sixth, no runs were scored in the next three innings, which brought the game to extras. Birmingham failed to score in the top of the 10th. In the home half of the 10th, with a runner on third and one out, Levi Jordan scored on a Haydn McGeary walk-off RBI sacrifice fly, to secure a 4-3 comeback win.

This was the eighth consecutive meeting between the Barons and Smokies that was decided by one run.
