Great Falls Voyagers News Release

Great Falls, MT-The Voyagers two-game winning streak ended quietly Monday night as the Billings pitching staff held Great Falls to a season-low seven hits in a 8-2 loss at Centene Stadium.

Billings (6-5) pulled into a second-place tie with Great Falls after recording a league season-high tying 18 strikeouts. The Voyagers fell behind early in the game and never recovered. With two outs in the top of the second and a runner on at second, a ground ball off the bat of Alberti Chavez was fielded by Corey Zangari at first but his throw was too far behind the pitcher covering and allowed the first run of the game. Three consecutive RBI singles followed, one each by Satchel McElroy, Mitch Piatnik, and Taylor Trammell and it was 4-0 Mustangs with all the runs unearned.

Great Falls (6-5) had a quick response in the bottom of the second. Casey Schroeder led off the inning with a line drive base hit to right. With one out, Jake Jarvis walloped a two-run home run deep to left to cut the lead in half. It was Jarvis' second big fly of the season.

Billings scored some insurance runs later in the game. The Mustangs plated a single tally in the fifth on a wild pitch and then added three more in the seventh. Like the second inning, all three runs in the seventh scored with two outs. Cassidy Brown and Alejo Lopez walked to start the rally. Alberti Chavez collected an RBI single and Satchel McElroy doubled home two more for a six-run cushion.

On the mound, Mustangs starter Tony Santillan struck out 12 Voyagers in a no-decision. Santillan worked four-and-two-thirds and allowed two earned runs on just four hits with one walk. Jesse Adams posted the win in relief. Adams (1-0) went one-and-a-third and gave up just one hit with three strikeouts and no walks. Chris Comito suffered the loss in his Great Falls debut. Comito (0-1) lasted five innings and yielded five runs (only one earned) on ten hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Billings outhit Great Falls 13-to-7. Cassidy Brown went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Satchel McElroy had two hits and three RBIs. The Voyagers finished just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Jake Jarvis had two hits in defeat.

Great Falls continues its first home stand of the season Tuesday night with the second of three against Billings. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. For ticket and promotional information, visit www.gfvoyagers.com or call 406-452-5311.
