Voyagers Drop Series Finale to Osprey

Great Falls, MT - The Voyagers could not overcome a four-run 6th for Missoula as the Osprey avoided a sweep with a 6-5 victory Friday night at Centene Stadium.

With the loss, Great Falls (12-10) has started the season 9-3 at home after taking two of three. It was the first win for the Osprey in Great Falls. The Voyagers are 4-4 against Missoula (12-10) in the overall season series. Great Falls, Helena, and Missoula are once again tied for first in the Pioneer League North Division.

Missoula opened the scoring with a single run in the 2nd. Cesar Garcia led off the inning with a double and later scored on an errant pick-off throw to third. In the home half, Great Falls leveled it on a Romy Gonzalez RBI single that scored Amado Nunez. Nunez started the inning with a double to the wall in left-center.

After the Osprey broke the tie with a run in the top of the 4th, the Voyagers plated two in the home half for their only lead of the night. Amado Nunez reached on a one-out walk. With two outs, Ramon Beltre singled home Nunez with the tying run. Jhoandro Alfaro then doubled off the wall in right field to score Nunez for a 3-2 Great Falls lead.

In the difference-making 6th, Missoula sent seven men to the plate and scored four times. Jesus Marriaga led off with a bunt single. Eddie Hernandez singled to left. Buddy Kennedy tied it with an RBI double deep to right-center. Cesar Garcia made it 4-3 with a run-scoring single to center. Nick Dalesandro walked to reach base. Alex King doubled to the wall in right-center for a two-run Osprey lead. A sacrifice fly to left brought in the final run of the inning and it was 6-3.

Great Falls climbed within one in the bottom of the 6th. Alex Destino doubled to lead off the frame, and later scored on a passed ball. With two outs, Romy Gonzalez doubled up the right field line. Ramon Beltre made it 6-5 with an RBI single to right-center. Beltre doubled to lead off the bottom of the 9th but was left stranded at second.

Both teams produced 10 hits in the game. For the Voyagers, Ramon Beltre collected two singles and a double with two RBIs. Alex Destino, Romy Gonzalez, and Jhoandro Alfaro all had two-hit games in the loss.

Wilfry Cruz posted the win for Missoula. Cruz (4-0) gave up three earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Chris Comito took the loss. Comito (1-3) lasted six innings and surrendered six runs (five earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Bryan Menendez notched his third save with just one hit allowed in the 9th.
