Great Falls Voyagers News Release
GREAT FALLS Mont.--Sean Buckley's fourth-inning solo home run was all the Mustangs needed as they put an end to the Voyagers four-game winning streak with a 1-0 victory.
Second in the league in home runs, Buckley's blast to straight away centerfield was his 11th of the season. The right-handed hitter now has four home runs versus the Voyagers this season.
Scott Snodgress (0-3) suffered the loss with just that one blemish to Buckley. In four innings of work, the fifth-round pick gave up just the one run on five hits. While control has been an issue at times for Snodgress this season, he struck out five and walked just one in his sixth start of the year.
Besting him was fourth-round pick, Kyle McMyne (1-1). The product of Villanova picked up his first career victory, lasting a season-high five innings. Allowing just five hits and zero walks, the righty helped set the tone for the Mustangs' first shutout of the season.
James Allen (S,6) pitched the games final 1.1 innings. He did not allow a hit and surrendered just one baserunner when he hit Joe De Pinto with two outs in the ninth. Allen came on with Kevan Smith in scoring position as the tying run and struck out Randall Thorpe to end the inning.
El'Hajj Muhammad went 2.2 scoreless innings after McMyne. He allowed just one hit and did not strikeout or walk a batter.
Mark Haddow led the Voyagers offensively, collecting three of the team's six hits. The right fielder came up as the winning run in the ninth and two outs, but grounded into a game-ending fielder's choice.
Qualon Millender extended his on-base streak to 21 consecutive games. After singling in the third, Millender was caught stealing to end the inning and then promptly ejected by field umpire Nick Bayer.
Second-round selection, Erik Johnson, made his professional debut. The righty from California worked a scoreless seventh inning. He got out of a minor jam leaving two runners on base after giving up a single and a walk.
Jamaal Hollis and Stew Brase eached worked two scoreless innings out the bullpen in the defeat.
The Voyagers remain at home and begin a two-game series with first-half champions, the Missoula Osprey, starting tomorrow night. Blair Walters (6-0) takes the mound for the Voyagers against Enrique Burgos (3-4) for the Osprey. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Centene Stadium with the pregame show set to begin at 6:35 p.m. on 560 KMON.
