MILWAUKEE, WI (November 14, 2005) - The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that Milwaukee Wave goalkeeper, Nick Vorberg, has won the league's Goalkeeper of the Week award for the second consecutive week.
The Grants Pass, Ore, native starred in the Wave's home opener as Milwaukee defeated the Chicago Storm 7-3. Vorberg played 57 minutes against the Chicago Storm on Saturday and stopped 15 of the 17 shots he faced. Thus far, Vorberg has gone two for two in Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
Vorberg has been a leader on a sturdy Milwaukee Wave defense. After two games, the Wave leads the league with a 3.00 goals against average. The seventh year keeper's numbers are also among the league's best as he currently leads MISL goalkeepers in wins (2), minutes (117:00), saves (30), goals against average (2.56) and save percentage (.857).
Milwaukee acquired Vorberg in the summer of 2003 and he enjoyed his best season in 2004-05 when he led the MISL in goals against average (3.96), save percentage (.762) and wins (22). He spent time with Portland, Utah and San Diego prior to joining the Wave.
The MISL also named their Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week on Monday. Ptah Myers from the Philadelphia KiXX took home the Defensive Player of the Week award after he kicked the game winner in overtime against California on Saturday. The Offensive Player of the Week was Adauto Neto of the Baltimore Blast. Neto posted three goals and two assists in his Baltimore debut.
