MISL announces players of the week

Nick Vorberg and Miwaukee's defense continue to shine above all others in the MISL through the first two weeks of the 2005-06 season. On Saturday evening the Wave and the Chicago Storm played their second game in as many weeks. This time the Wave hosted the Storm and 6,161 fans at U.S. Cellular Arena. And, again Vorberg proved a star in Milwaukee's 7-3 victory. The 30-year-old Grants Pass, Ore. native stopped 15 of 17 Chicago shots he faced in playing 57 of 60 minutes. He currently leads MISL goalkeepers in minutes (117:00), saves (30), goals against average (2.56) and save percentage (.857). Vorberg began his professional career in 1997 and enjoyed his best season in 2004-05 when he led the MISL in goals against average (3.96), save percentage (.762), and wins (22).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ptah Myers, Philadelphia KiXX
Ptah Myers moved up from his defensive role to play the role of the hero in Philadelphia's 7-6 overtime win over the California Cougars before 7, 311 at the Wachovia Spectrum on Saturday. Myers, received a ball from Tim O'Neill and lofted a right-footed shot from just inside the yellow line that beat California goalkeeper Brian Rowland at the 3:26 mark of the extra period, much to the home crowd's delight. Myers also had a block in the KiXX opener in which Philadelphia raced to a 6-0 advantage, before a Cougars' comeback tied the game and set up Myers' dramatics. The Columbus, Ohio, native and University of Massachusetts graduate, is 23 years old. In his first professional season in 2004-05, Myers had six goals three assists, and finished second on the team in blocks with 34 blocks.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Adauto Neto, Baltimore Blast
Adauto Neto made his debut in a Baltimore jersey a special one, totaling five points (three goals, two assists), before a opening night crowd of 11,519 at 1st Mariner Arena in the Blast's 9-4 defeat of the California Cougars on Friday. The 24-year-old striker, acquired in the first round of the 2005 MISL Dispersal Draft (second overall selection) has now scored goals in eight consecutive regular season games. When you include his final seven games with Cleveland in the spring Neto has 14 goals and 17 points in his past eight MISL games. The third-year forward is a native of Itabuna, Brazil. Neto fought through an injury-plagued 2004-05 season and managed to total 21 goals and 31 points in 25 games.
