VooDoo DS Monty Montgomery named AFL's ADT Defensive Player of the Month

New Orleans VooDoo DS Monty Montgomery was selected as the Arena Football League's ADT Defensive Player of the Month for April, it was announced today by the league.
Montgomery (6-0, 195, Houston), in his first AFL season, recorded 23 solo tackles, one assisted tackle, one tackle for a loss, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions and four passes defensed in the month. Montgomery has been the defensive leader for the VooDoo all season, starting all 12 games, recording 66 tackles, one tackle for a loss, three interceptions, 20 passes defensed and two fumble recoveries for 44 yards. Montgomery is tied for eighth in the AFL in interceptions, 10th in defensive fumble recoveries, seventh in tackles, tied for third in solo tackles (63) and second in passes defensed.
Montgomery played an important role in two of the VooDoo's April victories. In the VooDoo's 64-46 win over the Columbus Destroyers on April 18, Montgomery recorded 12.5 tackles, a tackle for a two-yard loss, a 42-yard fumble return for a touchdown, a 14-yard interception return and two passes defensed. For his efforts, he was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Week by the league. The following week, in the VooDoo's fourth quarter come-from-behind 63-59 victory over the Austin Wranglers, Montgomery recorded nine solo tackles, a key fumble recovery at the VooDoo one-yard line and a game-saving end zone interception.
Originally a fourth round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 1997, Montgomery enjoyed a five-year NFL career with the Colts, San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles in 54 games, recording 141 tackles, 3.5 sacks, four interceptions, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 21 special teams tackles.
