New Orleans VooDoo News Release

The New Orleans VooDoo have signed WR/DB Carl Bond, QB Billy Dicken, WR/LB Preston Hartfield, OL/DL John Hilliard and OL/DL Mike Landry to the roster in an effort to add depth at several positions.

Bond (5-11, 205, Connecticut) comes to New Orleans after spending the 2004 season with the Detroit Fury, where he had 51 receptions for 737 yards and 15 touchdowns, while adding 11 tackles and two interceptions. Bond is a four-year AFL veteran who played for VooDoo Coach Mike Neu with the Carolina Cobras from 2001-02.

Dicken (6-2, 215, Purdue) comes to the VooDoo after spending the 2004 season with the Detroit Fury, where he served as New Orleans QB Andy Kelly’s backup. Dicken was the starting quarterback for the Chicago Rush from 2001-03, leading them to the playoffs each season. During his career, Dicken has completed 750-of-1226 passes for 9355 yards with 185 touchdown passes and 45 interceptions. He enjoyed his best year in 2002, when he completed a career-high 264-of-431 passes for 3,508 yards with 74 touchdown passes and 16 interceptions, as he was named the team MVP and led the Rush to the second round of the playoffs.

Hartfield (6-1, 215, Texas Tech) enters the Arena Football League after playing wide receiver for Texas Tech from 2001-02. In his senior year with the Red Raiders, Hartfield appeared in 14 games in 2002, starting four and recorded 25 receptions for 271 yards with one touchdown.

Hilliard (6-3, 298, Mississippi State) was a sixth round draft choice of the Seattle Seahawks in 2000 and appeared in 27 games as a defensive end with 11 starts, recording 34 tackles. Hilliard enjoyed his finest season in 2001, when he appeared in all 16 games, starting eight and recorded 17 tackles. Hilliard also spent part of the 2004 off-season with the Green Bay Packers. A native of Coushatta, La., Hilliard was a four-year letterman and two year starter at defensive tackle for Mississippi State, recording 138 tackles and six sacks.

Landry (6-3, 308, Southern) spent the end of the 2003 season and the past training camp as a defensive end with the San Francisco 49ers. Landry spent the final game of the 2003 season on San Francisco’s active roster. Landry was originally signed as an undrafted free agent with Kansas City in 2002 and spent time on the practice squads of both the Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers from 2002-03. Landry was allocated to the Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe by Kansas City in 2003 and responded with 31 tackles and 6.5 sacks. Landry, who prepped at Donaldsonville High School, played in 25 games with 23 starts at Southern, earning second-team All-SWAC honors as a senior in 2001, when he tallied 45 tackles (15 solo), five sacks and 14 tackles for a loss.

“We are excited to be able to add this kind of depth as we make preparations for training camp,” said Neu. “I am familiar with Carl’s abilities from our time in Carolina and he has a proven ability to catch the ball. Billy has valuable starting experience in this league and has taken his team to the playoffs every year as a starter. Both John and Mike are linemen with pass rush abilities and NFL experience. They will be great additions to what is a strength on our team.”

New Orleans VooDoo season tickets are now available for the 2005 campaign, starting as low as $96 for the entire season. For ticket information, please call (504) 731-1700.
