Chicago Rush News Release

The Chicago Rush announced today it has signed former University of Minnesota quarterback Asad Abdul-Khaliq to a three-year contract.

Abdul-Khaliq (6-1, 220, Minnesota), a four-year letterman (2000-2003) and two-time team captain (2002-03) for the Golden Gophers, was named team MVP and honorable mention All-Big Ten as a senior in 2003. He completed 481 of 847 passes for 6,660 yards and 55 touchdowns in his career, while also rushing for 1,158 yards and 16 touchdowns.

"Asad is a great athlete," said Rush head coach Mike Hohensee. "He was fantastic at running Minnesota's offense, showed the ability to make good decisions and threw with both touch and accuracy. In addition, he has the mobility to get out of the pocket and make things happen. If he can pick up the Arena game, he has the tools to be a great QB in this league."

Abdul-Khaliq is the only player in school history to record three seasons with 12 or more touchdown passes and holds University of Minnesota records for most career TD passes, total offense (7,818 yards) and career touchdown-to-interception ratio (2.1-1). He also ranks second on the Golden Gophers' career list for passing yards and completions.

As a junior in 2002, Abdul-Khaliq threw 19 touchdown passes, one shy of Hohensee's school record for TD passes in a season, while tying Hohensee's record of 10 straight games with at least one TD pass.

The Rush kicks off its fifth anniversary season in January with the 2005 home opener set for noon on Sunday, February 6, against Jon Bon Jovi's Philadelphia Soul. Rush season tickets, beginning at just $64, currently are on sale.
