Springfield Jr. Blues News Release

As is tradition at most sporting events, the National Anthem is performed to honor our country before the game begins. Since 1998, most of the time, the man at the microphone singing that anthem has been our own, Mark Agnew

Mark started his music path on the drums at age 9. He got his first paying job at age 12 inside the State Fair tent and from that point on, he knew what he wanted to do in life: Play music.

He went on the play in the school band, the Black Knights Drum & Bugle Corps and in a high school band. He graduated from Laphier High school in 1975 and Western Illinois University 4 years later.

He moved to Herrin, Illinois in 1979 to become the lead vocalist in the rock band, Spectra. From 1981-1995, Spectra opened around the country for several rock-band legends like Styx, Warrant, Ted Nugent, Black Oak Arkasas, The Guess Who, The Grass Roots and Head East. Some pretty impressive names!!

He moved back to Springfield in 1995 to take the Office Manager job for the Union FireFighters. And in 1998, the tradition began with the Jr. Blues!

Mark has three children(Marissa, Ashli and Xairiki) along with one grandchild(Jenna).

The Jr. Blues organization would like to say THANK YOU to Mark Agnew and his dedication in helping the game day experience!!
