Marquette Rangers News Release
Marquette - The North American Hockey League has named Marquette Ranger defenseman Derek Grogan as their North Division Player of The Week.
Grogan, an Eagan, Minnesota native notched a pair of goals this past weekend to go with a pair of assists as the Rangers kept alive their playoff- hopes splitting two games with second-place Mahoning Valley at Lakeview Arena.
"Derek had another solid all-around weekend," said Rangers coach Randy Enders. "Even as a defenseman, he has added offense for us all year and that sometimes overshadows his all-around game."
On the season, Grogan has 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points in 52 games.
He joins goaltenders Matt Brooker and Beau Christian, and forward Aaron Pietila as Marquette skaters to be honored as players of the week this season by the NAHL.
The Rangers return to action this weekend hosting Alpena in a key weekend for both teams' playoff hopes. The IceDiggers are in a battle with Mahoning Valley for second place and home ice in the opening round of the NAHL playoffs. Meanwhile the Rangers, Traverse City and the U.S. National Team Development Program are in a three-way fight for the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division.
The games this Friday and Saturday at Lakeview Arena start at 7:30 each night.
