NHL Legend Bobby Hull Coming To Springfield
March 10, 2008 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
NHL Hall of Famer Bobby Hull will appear in Springfield, Illinois for the benefit of the Springfield Jr. Blues hockey team. Bobby will be at the Nelson Center, this Saturday, March 15th from 4:30 to 6:30pm to sign autographs and drop the ceremonial game puck at the start of the Jr. Blues-Fargo Jets hockey game.
Hull is regarded as one of the greatest hockey players of all time and perhaps the greatest left-winger to ever play the game. In his 23 years in the National Hockey league and World Hockey Association, he played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Winnepeg Jets and Hartford Whalers. His slap shot-the hardest in the game-was clocked at over 118 mph.
By his third season in the NHL, he led the league in goals and points. He went on to lead Chicago to a Stanley Cup win in 1961. Hull was famous for his blonde hair and blinding speed, earning him the nickname "the Golden Jet", and he possessed the most feared slapshot of his day. Along with teammate Stan Mikita, they were the most formidable duo of the Sixties. Both Hull and Makita were honored at Chicago's United Center just last weekend.
Although only 5' 10" in stature, Bobby had a solid build from his days working on a dairy farm in Pointe Ann, Ontario, Canada. On March 12, 1966, he became the 1st NHLer to score more than 50 goals in a season. Before ending his carreer, he would score 50 goals or more a remarkable five times.
In 1978, Hull was made an Officer of the Order of Canada and was inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 1983. His #9 jersey has been retired by the Chicago Blackhawks.
Bobby's brother Dennis and son Brett were also outstanding hockey stars. Bobby & Brett are the only father & son combination in any professional sport to have both their numbers retired. Brett's #16 was retired by St. Louis.
Bobby Hull ended his career having played in 1063 NHL games, accumulating 610 goals, 560 assists, 1170 points, 640 penalty minutes, three Art Ross Trophies, two Hart Memorial Trophies, a Lady Byng trophy and a Stanley Cup Championship.
The Jr. Blues are offering a limited number of "Invitation-Only" opportunities to have a private lunch, meeting and photo opportunity with Bobby Hull. Fans with tickets will have an opportunity to get autographs and pictures from 4:30pm to 6:30 pm at the Nelson Center prior to the beginning of the Jr. Blues-Fargo Jets hockey game.
