Rangers in 0 – 2 Hole

April 3, 2010 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Marquette Rangers News Release

Marquette - The Motor City Metal Jackets took advantage of their power play opportunities Saturday night at Lakeview Arena; the Marquette Rangers did not. The result was a 2 - 1 come from behind win for Motor City who takes a two game to none lead over the Rangers in their best of five North American Hockey League playoff series.

The two teams now move to the Kennedy Ice Arena in Downstate Trenton for games three and, if need be, game four. If game five in necessary it would be Saturday April 10th at the Berry Events Center on campus at Northern Michigan University.

The Rangers opened the scoring at 8:40 of the second period when Josh Bussell scored his first goal of the playoffs on a rebound in front of Motor City goalie Jason Torf. Scott Henegar and Collin Saint-Onge moved up ice 2 on 1 and fired a shot that Torf initially stopped; before Bussell swooped in and banged the puck into the open net.

Torf finished the evening with 44 saves on 45 efforts by Marquette, while his counterpart Lukas Hafner made 32 saves on 34 shots by Motor City.

The lead held until the 14:00 mark of the third period when the Rangers were hit with back-to-back penalties giving the Metal Jackets a two man advantage; which they in-turn took solid advantage of.

First, John Scorcia scored on a scramble in front of Hafner on the five on three advantage with defenseman Mike Monfredo and forward Eric Millisor assisting. The game winner was scored on a wrap-around goal by Anthony Coles who first made a move to get Hafner and the Rangers defense out of position on the near post before going around the net for the stuff.

The Rangers game at Motor City will be available this Thursday on the Rangers website www.marquetterangers.com.
