ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- Minor League Baseball announced today that Lisa Walker of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, has been named the 2005 Woman Executive of the Year in Sports. The Award, in its 30th year, is sponsored by Rawlings Sporting Goods.

The Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year is a national honor bestowed to the game's finest female executive, awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to her club, league or baseball during the past season. Lisa was nominated for this prestigious award by the Northwest League of Professional Baseball who also awarded Lisa their 2005 Northwest League Woman of the Year Award.

The awards are due largely to Lisa's efforts supporting community outreach and non-profit programs for the Volcanoes. In 2004, the Volcanoes' community outreach initiatives set records with the quality and quantity of programs designed to benefit the people of Salem-Keizer and the surrounding areas. In 2005, all of those records were shattered. Cancer Awareness Night is the Volcanoes' marquee community initiative. In 2005, over 200 cancer survivors were joined by players and staff on the field for a pre-game ceremony. Lisa, a breast cancer survivor herself, gave a motivational speech. Select Cancer survivors sang the National Anthem, participated in the ceremonial running of the bases and throwing out of the ceremonial first pitches for the game. An informational health fair, focusing on cancer awareness, was held on the Stadium concourse. Every reserved and box seat ticket was sold out for this special night before the season began -- over 2 months before the event. Since Lisa first created Cancer Awareness Night in 2002, it has grown each season and has been emulated by many teams across the country.

The 2005 Rawlings National Woman Executive of the Year in Sports Award will be presented to Lisa during an Awards Luncheon on Monday, December 5, at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Dallas, Texas.
