Salem-Keizer Volcanoes News Release

Grandstand Cards (Woodland Hills, CA) has produced a commemorative baseball card set featuring former Salem-Keizer Volcanoes' baseball players who have played in the Big Leagues. This 'giant' 101-card set features the phenomenal success the franchise has had moving players to Major League Baseball. "We felt this was an incredible achievement," said Len Shapiro, owner of Grandstand Cards. "We've followed the franchise closely over these past 20 years and felt their successes, putting 101 players in the Majors, needed to be documented by creating a commemorative collectible baseball card set. Players like Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford, Joe Panik, Pablo Sandoval, Tim Lincecum, Sergio Romo, Matt Duffy all began their careers wearing Volcanoes' uniforms. It's really quite impressive," concluded Shapiro.

The set titled: VOLCANOES BASEBALL 1997-2017 ~ 20 YEARS OF SUCCESS ~ 101 PLAYERS WHO MADE IT TO THE BIG LEAGUES includes 13 'Gold Cards' denoting the 13 players who played in the World Series - including 3-time World Series Champions Buster Posey, Sergio Romo, Tim Lincecum and Pablo Sandoval. Sandoval also holds the distinction as the 2012 World Series Most Valuable Player.

In conjunction with the release of the set, the Volcanoes plan to start distributing the cards on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Volcanoes Stadium. The date is exactly 101 days prior to Opening Night when the Volcanoes begin the 2018 Championship Season at home versus the Tri City Dust Devils. 1 card will be given away FREE, with any Volcanoes' ticket or merchandise purchase made at Volcanoes Stadium, each day leading up the 2018 Season. Joe Nathan, the Volcanoes' first player to make it to the Big Leagues, will be the first card given away on March 6. Nathan, who was a 6-Time All-Star, will be followed by the second former player to make it to the Big Leagues, Scott Linebrink (March 7), followed by the third player Ryan Vogelsong (March 8) and so on, 1 card each day for 101 days! The Vogelsong card, distributed on March 8, will be the first of the 'Gold Cards' as he pitched in the World Series in 2012 and 2014 - followed by Francisco Liriano (April 2), Travis Ishikawa (April 5), Jonathan Sanchez (April 8), Tim Lincecum (April 13), Nate Schierholtz (April 14), Sergio Romo (April 23), Pablo Sandoval (April 26), Buster Posey (May 5), Brandon Crawford (May 8), Danny Otero (May 12), Joe Panik (May 22), and Matt Duffy (May 24). Keury Mella will be the final card distributed, on June 14th - the 101st Player who made it to the Big Leagues.

"Grandstand Cards is a leader in the industry and we are very proud to be associated with them and humbled that they have chosen to produce this terrific commemorative set," said Volcanoes' owner Jerry Walker. "101 players, 20 years - 13 in the World Series - it really is special. The set will be a terrific tribute to our players and will become a showcase for the organization -- and most importantly something our fans will really enjoy," concluded Walker.

The Volcanoes won Minor League Baseball's Promotion of the Year Award in 2017 with their nationally recognized Eclipse Game. The first ever delay of a professional sporting event due to a solar eclipse. This 101 special commemorative collectible baseball card set may set the stage for back-to-back Awards! "The pre-season opportunity to receive the cards will be the first but not the Only chance for our fans to collect these keepsakes. Cards will also be distributed at every home game throughout the season with various in-stadium promotions - who knows you may find cards wrapped with your hot dog, hamburger, or in the bottom of your popcorn container," quipped Walker.

Volcanoes Stadium will open at 6:00am on Tuesday to begin the card distribution - Joe Nathan.
