Vogelbach, Montero Tabbed Players of the Week

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Iowa Cubs' first baseman Dan Vogelbach and Las Vegas 51s' pitcher Rafael Montero have been selected the Player and Pitcher of the Week for May 9-15, the Pacific Coast League announced today.

In seven games, Vogelbach hit .333 (8-for-24) with three home runs, eight RBI, seven walks and six runs scored. His 1.276 OPS and .792 slugging percentage led the PCL, while he also finished tied for first in RBI and walks. The Florida native's impressive week was highlighted by the first multi-homer game of his Triple-A career - and fourth of his professional career - when he hit two home runs, driving in four, May 9 at Omaha. Vogelbach hit safely in six of the seven games.

The 23-year-old is in his first year in Triple-A and entered play Monday third in the PCL in RBI (29) and sixth in OPS (.977) through 33 games. Vogelbach is in his sixth year in the Cubs organization after getting selected by Chicago in the second round of the 2011 First-Year Player draft out of Bishop Verot High School (FL). The first baseman has batted .286 with a .386 on-base percentage and 66 home runs and 296 RBI in 465 professional games. The two-time MiLB.com Cubs organizational All-Star has twice been named Player of the Week before, coming in back-to-back weeks in April 2015 with the Double-A Tennessee Smokies.

Montero made two road starts, not allowing a run in 11.2 innings on six hits with five walks and 13 strikeouts. He recorded the win on May 9 at Sacramento, blanking the River Cats over 5.2 innings with six strikeouts. On May 14, he tossed 6.0 shutout innings with two hits and seven strikeouts, facing off against Julio Urias and the Oklahoma City Dodgers. The final scores of both games were 1-0. Additionally, Montero posted a 0.94 WHIP and .154 batting average against.

The right-hander is in his sixth season in the Mets organization after signing with New York as a free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2011. He has appeared in parts of three seasons with the Mets, including a brief two-game stint this year. The 25-year-old has a 4.45 ERA in 17 career big league appearances (9 starts). Over 95 minor league appearances (89 starts), Montero is 37-21 with a 2.80 ERA, 119 walks and 458 strikeouts. This is his second career PCL Pitcher of the Week award, having previously been honored in August 2014. He's received one other Pitcher of the Week award in his career, August 2012 with the Single-A Florida State League's St. Lucie Mets.
