Vipers Set Final Roster
May 17, 2005 - Northern League (NL)
Calgary Vipers News Release
Field manager Mike Busch today announced his 22 man roster for the Calgary Vipers first road trip to Sioux City, Iowa and St. Paul Minnesota to open their inaugural season in the Northern League.
Pitching coach Steve Maddock will have 11 hurlers to chose from on the road swing. Two players, shortstop Sam Rosario (thigh) and pitcher Chris Reilly (viral infection) will start the season on the Vipers disabled list.
The only surprise in the final roster is the last minute addition of Canadian outfielder Jason Trim. The rookie from Brampton, Ontario was a walk-on at the Vipers Free Agent camp, but the blazing speed of the former Southern University star earned him a spot on the roster.
The position players earning starting roster spots include catcher Adam Shorsher, first baseman Greg Morrison, second baseman Tony James, third baseman Carlos Duncan, shortstop Adrial Fiallo, and outfielders Drew Miller, Amado German and Corey Paul. Righthander Evan Greusel will get the starting assignment on the mound at Lewis and Clarke Park in Sioux City on Friday Night. That game and all games in the six game round trip will be broadcast live on The Fan 960 with Rob Kerr calling the play-by-play.
The Vipers roster looks like the United Nations of the Northern League. Calgary opens the season with six Canadians, two Dominicans, one Cuban, one Australian and 12 Americans.
The Vipers will practice one last time at Foothills Stadium on Wednesday from 3 pm â 6 pm before flying to Sioux City on Thursday morning. The team has its home opener on Friday, May 27 as First Calgary Savings presents Jeff Zimmerman Night at Foothills. The former Major League All-star will throw out the first pitch and sign autographs throughout the home game.
Construction continues on the new ViperVision scoreboard which will make its debut on opening night.
Following is the complete Calgary roster.
