Vipers Lose Veteran - Sign Ex-Major Leaguer

Calgary Vipers News Release

The Calgary Vipers will be without three year All-Star Carlos Duncan when they open the Golden League season this Friday in Edmonton. Duncan, who has hit 45 home runs and collected 221 RBI in his three years with the Snakes, is sidelined indefinitely with a knee injury. The Vipers team captain was third in the Northern League in batting last year with a .352 average.

Field manager Mike Busch quickly filled the hole at third base by signing former Baltimore Oriole Jose Morban. The 27-year old Dominican split last season between AAA Oklahoma of the PCL and Somerset of the Atlantic League. In addition to his 61 games with the Orioles he also has had AAA seasons with Tacoma and Buffalo.

The Vipers also welcomed catcher Patrick Arlis to the fold over the weekend. Well known to the Vipers, Arlis was Kansas City's catcher in the Northern League last season and also spent time in AAA Albuquerque.

Busch will trim his roster to the league limit of 22 players following tonight's preseason game against Edmonton in Red Deer.
