Yuma Scorpions News Release

(Yuma. AZ,May 20, 2008) The Yuma Scorpions of the independent professional Golden Baseball League continued to improve their pitching staff today as they agreed to terms with LHP Vic Darensbourg, a Major League experienced reliever who has eight major league seasons under his belt with over 300 games for six MLB teams.

"It's great to have Vic as a member of the Scorpions, although I would be surprised if he lasted very long before a major league team or top foreign league comes calling," said Yuma Scorpions Manager and former MLB All-Star Mike Marshall. "Vic has been an outstanding reliever throughout his major league and minor league career. The year he had last season in AAA Toledo was unbelievable and I'm looking forward to his skill and veteran leadership as a key part of the 2008 Yuma Scorpions."

Darensbourg, 36, was signed out of a tryout camp in Long Beach by the Florida Marlins in 1992. A native of Los Angeles, he had just finished up a spectacular season at Lewis-Clark College in Idaho where he went 10-2 and led the Warriors to the NAIA Championship Game where he pitched a complete game as his team lost. The Marlins snapped him ujp at the tryout and he spent the next 10 seasons in Florida's system as a flame-throwing lefty reliever, reaching the big league club in 1998. For the next five seasons he appeared in more than 200 games with the Marlins and then was dealt at the end of 2002 in a blockbuster trade to the Colorado Rockes along with teammates Preston Wilson, Charles Johnson, and Pablo Azuna for Mike Hampton, Juan Pierre, and cash. During the next five seasons in played in the Major Leagues with the Rockies, White Sox, Expos, Mets, and Tigers. Last year he spent all season with Detroit's AAA team in Toledo where he posted a 6-2 record with a 1.72 E.R.A. in 50 games and was unscored upon in his first 31 appearances.

Darensbourg is the second Major League experienced pitcher to sign with Yuma for 2008 as he joins starter Mike Esposito, ex-Colorado Rockie, on the Scorpion's staff.
