Vipers Fall to Oklahoma in Overtime

LAS VEGAS - Despite a fourth quarter comeback, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers fell to the Oklahoma City Blue after an overtime game with a final score of 119-113 at the Mandala Bay Convention Center during the Showcase Cup Tournament Quarterfinals in the 2021 NBA G League Winter Showcase.

The Vipers trailed Oklahoma for most of the game but made a game changing comeback. In the fourth quarter, after being 20 points down, and with 1:20 remaining in the quarter, Anthony Lamb tied the game 105-105.

With 57 seconds remaining on the clock RGV took the lead of the game for the first time 107-105. The lead of the game continued going back and forth between both teams which resulted in the fourth quarter ending 109-109.

During overtime, RGV fell six points short of a victory after Oklahoma pulled away. Marvin Smith Jr. recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Lamb led the team in points with 24 points, nine rebounds, two assists and four steals.

Three other players scored in the double digits: Houston Rockets two-way player Daishen Nix (14 points, four rebounds, six assists and three blocks), Christian Vital (14 points, three rebounds and five assists) and Marcus Foster (20 points, eight rebounds and four assists).

D.J. Wilson, Zavier Simpson and Vit Krejci all had double-doubles for Oklahoma. Wilson totaled 31 points and 15 rebounds, Simpson tallied 18 points and five rebounds while Krejci posted 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Jaylen Hoard scored 13 points and had five rebounds, and three assists. Also scoring in the double digits were Melvin Frazier Jr. (11 points) and Michael Gbinije (11 points).

The Vipers will play on Tuesday, December 21 against the loser of the Maine Celtics vs. Mexico City Capitanes game. Tip-off will be at 12 p.m. PST / 2 p.m. CST. The game will air on NBA TV.
