
Vipers Defeat Tulsa 125-113

HIDALGO, Texas, January 29, 2014 - Tim Ohlbrecht led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (20-7) with a double-double 28 points and 13 rebounds to beat the Tulsa 66ers (9-17) 125-113 tonight at the State Farm Arena.
In addition to Ohlbrecht, Troy Daniels added 17 points and was 6-for-14 from three-point range. Gary Talton scored a double-double 20 points, 10 assists. Kevin Parrom tallied 17 points, and Tony Bishop, Jr. scored a double-double 13 points and 10 rebounds. Akeem Ellis also added 12 points.
Mario Little and Mustafa Shakur each scored 23 points to lead Tulsa. Reggie Williams added 22 points. Rodney Bartholomew scored a double-double 10 points and 10 rebounds. Ron Anderson and Isaiah Wilkerson each added 10 points.
Shakur started the game with a layup and Bartholomew sank two shots at the free throw line to put Tulsa up with its only lead of the game 4-0. However, Ellis and Talton connected on three consecutive three-pointers to give RGV a 9-4 advantage. Midway through the first quarter, two free throws from Roberson cut the 66ers deficit to 19-17. The Vipers used a 13-5 run to build their lead to 32-22 at the end of the first quarter.
At 5:59 in the second quarter, Kenny Kadji gave the Vipers their largest lead of the game 50-33 with two free throws. Little answered with a jump shot to cut into the Vipers lead 50-35. By the end of the first half, Tulsa had closed its deficit to 63-55.
A shot from behind the arc at 7:15 in the third quarter by Williams put Tulsa within four points, 73-69, of the Vipers. Bishop followed with two free throws and Talton shot a three-pointer to put RGV ahead 78-69. Two free throws from Kadji gave the Vipers their largest lead of the second half 91-76 with 2:19 remaining in the third quarter. Wilkerson followed with a jump shot that sent Tulsa on a 10-2 run to end the third quarter behind the Vipers 93-86.
Tulsa continued to fight throughout the fourth quarter, but was not able to catch the Vipers. RGV won 125-113.
