
Vipers Coaching Staff Set for 2008

Huntsville, AL- The Tennessee Valley Vipers coaching staff is set for the 2008 arenafootball2 season that will kickoff on March 29th at the Von Braun Center against the South Georgia Wildcats at 7:30pm. The Vipers will be led by new head coach Dean Cokinos. Cokinos, who was hired back in October of 2007, has assembled a staff that he thinks can bring success to the Tennessee Valley, "I am very pleased with the staff we were able to assemble. We have a great blend of experience in arena football, knowledge, and personalities. Joining Coach Cokinos will be Tracy Kendall, Cosmo Dematteo, John Kirk, and Brenard Wilson.
Kendall, who played with the Vipers from 2000-2002, will again join the Vipers staff as the special teams coordinator. He has been coaching with the Vipers since the 2003 season and has held many positions with the team such as, receivers coach, offensive coordinator and also spent one season as the offensive backs coach at Alabama A&M in 1993.
Dematteo, who will join the Vipers staff for the first time this season, will be the Director of Scouting. The former University of Tennessee-Chattanooga receiver broke several of Terrell Owens receiving records at the school and has experience in professional football in NFL Europe. He also saw action in arena football with the New York Dragons, Arizona Rattlers, and Nashville Kats, where he played under Coach Cokinos.
Kirk, who will also be returning to the Vipers staff, will be in charge of the offensive and defensive lineman. Coach Kirk has a long history of coaching that includes stops with Hazelwood High School, Butler High School, Huntsville High School, and currently Grissom High School. Kirk, also coached with the Vipers from 2000-2003 and coached for the AFL's Philadelphia Soul for the past two seasons.
Wilson, who will be the Vipers defensive consultant, will also bring experience to the Vipers sideline after coaching with the Nashville Kats for eight seasons, including six as defensive coordinator. Wilson, who was an All-American standout at Vanderbilt University in the mid-70's, also played with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1980 and led the team with six interceptions and 72 tackles and was integral in helping the Eagles capture the NFC Championship and advance to Super Bowl XV, where they faced the Oakland Raiders. He went on to enjoy a nine year career in the NFL with the Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons.
