
Vipers' Championship Hero Returns

Calgary Vipers News Release
The Calgary Vipers have signed infielder Wilver Perez to a 2011 North American League contract. The 27-year-old returns to the team he helped lead to the 2009 Golden Baseball League Championship. That playoffs Perez hit the biggest home run in franchise history when with his team trailing in the ninth inning of Game 4 against the Edmonton Capitals in the North Division Championship Series he tied the game on the way to a series clinching victory along with avoiding a fifth and deciding contest. Overall he hit .333, scored ten runs, and drove in 11 during the eight Calgary playoff games.
Last season with the Victoria Seals the Avondale, Arizona resident set a new G.B.L. record by stealing 64 bases. He also finished second in runs scored (83), sixth in doubles (25), seventh in triples (4), eighth in games played (85), tenth in hits (107), and 12th in walks (48).
During the regular season in 2009 the 5'11" 200-pounder played for both Victoria and Calgary and finished third in runs scored (79), third in doubles (28), fourth in hits (104), sixth in stolen bases (24), and seventh in walks (40). He was named to Baseball America's All-Independent Second-Team along with being a G.B.L. All-Star.
The Vipers will be holding a media conference on Monday May 9th at 12:00 pm at Foothills Stadium with all partners and friends invited.
Spring Training for the team will be held at the preseason home of the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale, Arizona at Scottsdale Stadium starting on Saturday May 14th.
Calgary starts the 2011 regular season on the road in Yuma, Arizona on Tuesday May 24th with a double-header against Jose Canseco and the Scorpions.
The Vipers return to Calgary and Foothills Stadium for their home opener on Thursday May 26th at 6:30 PM MDT against their Alberta rivals, the Edmonton Capitals.
