Vipers' bite not enough to defeat the 'Dogs

ROANOKE, VA - The Roanoke Valley Vipers, member of the United Hockey League (UHL), fell by a final score of 8-1 Wednesday night at the Roanoke Civic Center after allowing the RiverDogs to take the lead to the at 11:27 of the first period.

Mike Oliveira opened up scoring at 5:20 of the first period, scoring on a power play to give the RiverDogs an early advantage. Mike Wiggins scored on a breakaway at the 7:28 mark off an assist from Mark Scott to tie the game for the Vipers.

The RiverDogs responded with seven consecutive goals, two coming from Dan Vandermeer, who ended the night with a plus-five rating, and two more from Mike Oliveira, who ended the night with a hat trick and four points (3G, 1A). The Vipers players didn't go down without a fight, as Mike Krelove, Kevin McLaughlin, Charlie Elezi, and Mark Scott each dropped the gloves to try to get the momentum going for the Vipers.

Roanoke Valley will play two more games at home this weekend before beginning another road trip, which will last five games.
