Vines Shines in M-Braves' 3-1 Win over Trash Pandas

PEARL, MS - RHP Darius Vines delivered six shutout innings, and the Mississippi Braves (40-44, 11-4) won their third straight game 3-1 over the Rocket City Trash Pandas (50-34, 9-6) on Thursday night at Trustmark Park.

Vines allowed just two hits and two walks with five strikeouts. The right-hander has a 1.85 ERA (6 ER/29.2 IP) over his last five starts. Atlanta's No. 12 prospect leads the Southern League with 104 strikeouts this season.

The M-Braves have won 11 of their last 13 and are 10-2 in July.

Vines dueled with RHP Mason Erla, with each tossing four scoreless innings to start the game. In the fifth, the M-Braves broke through. Cody Milligan drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the first run of the game. With two outs, Justyn-Henry Malloy grounded a two-run single into left field to give the M-Braves a 3-0 lead.

Those were the first RBI in Double-A for Malloy, who went 2-for-4 with two singles and two RBI. Malloy was promoted from High-A Rome on Tuesday, July 12.

Milligan picked up his third hit of the series, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

The Trash Pandas scored their lone run of the game in the seventh.

RHP Justin Maese walked two batters in the ninth, but he forced a double-play groundout for his 10th save of the season, tied for the lead in the Southern League.

The fourth game of the series is on Thursday at Trustmark Park. RHP Tanner Gordon (5-4, 6.92) makes the start for Mississippi against RHP Chase Silseth (2-0, 1.75) Rocket City. The first pitch is at 6:35 pm CT, with coverage starting at 6:20 pm CT on 103.9 WYAB, TuneIn Radio, First Pitch App, and MiLB.tv.
