Know your Opponent: What is a Trash Panda?

In short, it's a raccoon but there's a lot more to the story.

The name comes from - of course - social media. According to Business Insider, in early 2014, Redditor /u/CarlPeligro made a comment on a photo of a raccoon: "Raccoons = trash pandas." That description stuck and the use of the term, along with memes featuring trash pandas, spread. The posts often highlight the black and white coloring similarities between traditional pandas and trash pandas, as well as the striped tail and similar features of the red panda. The name was the selected from a list of similarly wacky ones including the ThunderSharks, Space Chimps, Moon Possums and Comet Jockeys.

Saturday, July 16 | vs. Rocket City Trash Pandas | 6:05 pm CT

Tougaloo Nine Night: M-Braves will wear special jerseys recognizing the brave Tougaloo College students that staged a public library "sit-in" in Jackson in 1961. Each retro -Tougaloo College Jersey will feature the last name of one of the Tougaloo Nine members and will be available for purchase via silent auction during the game. The event is presented by the Mississippi Department of Archives & History (MDAH)and the Two Mississippi Museums -Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and Museum of Mississippi History.

Post-Game Fireworks: After the game, a fantastic fireworks show will light up the night sky, presented by Two Mississippi Museums!

Sunday, July 17 | vs. Rocket City Trash Pandas | 2:05 pm CT

Raising Cane's Sunday Family Fun Day: The M-Braves invite you to bring your entire family out for some Sunday baseball at Trustmark Park! For $25 per person, fans get a game ticket, hat, hotdog, and drink voucher!

Kids Run the Bases: After the game, kids get a chance to run the bases like the pros!
